Pumpin' Pal Super Shields are simply the best designed breast pumping flanges on the market today. The oval design of the nipple area creates Better Flow of milk and allows ducts to drain faster and more efficiently. The Angle of the Super Shield allows mom to sit in a much more comfortable position with improved posture. The Ripple Design on the bell of the Super Shields moves the suction area away from the nipple and places it in a much less sensitive area on the breast, reducing nipple trauma and tissue abrasions. The overall design aids in the reduction of plugged ducts and mastitis.

These flanges can be used in all major brands of pumps, some as a replacement and some as an insert. The Super Shields come highly recommended by Lactation Consultants and are featured in current breast feeding books as an answer for moms to improve their milk output and comfort with pumping. An absolute must have for all pumping moms. The set comes with a pair of all three sizes a mom will need because her body will change throughout the time she is pumping and throughout the day as well. Having the set of all 3 sizes assures mom she has what she needs when she needs it and is priced more economically than when purchased separately.

Finding the right fit

 November 15, 2012

As all exclusive pumpers would know, finding the right shield takes time and experimentation. Sadly, time is also in short supply b/c spending even a couple days testing out any one shield can rapidly result in diminished supply. I am a new mom who ended up EPing b/c of latch issues. I am also someone who has low supply despite EPing around the clock (I only pump about 10-12 oz per day). I went through every single Medela shield (20mm, 24mm, 27mm) and then I went through each of these Pumpin’ Pals shields to find the best fit in terms of comfort and output. Women all have their unique narratives when it comes to breastfeeding, but if you are someone who has issues similar to mine, I do recommend the Pumpin’ Pals shields. I settled on the large shield (aka the middle size) and it has worked the best so far (my baby is 10 weeks). The angle helps collect every precious little drop, and the graduated cone helps with comfort and suction to the breast. There are also ridges on the bottom part of the shield, which I think are there to help prevent leaks after pumping. However, they can cause a bit of friction damage to the breast over the long term (I have tougher breast skin where the ridges are located). It’s very helpful to use olive oil or nipple cream on the shield for every pump session in order to alleviate breast wear and tear. For a while (around week 6-7) I did end up with really bad clogs every day, but I don’t necessarily attribute it to these shields. I think it was probably a result of EPing b/c this action just takes a toll on the breasts. The only thing that would allow me to unclog (I tried hot compresses, cold cabbage leaves, ice packs, breast compressions, you name it and nothing worked) was getting my baby to suck the clogs out. Long story short, after a really bad start and the nightmare of EPing and bottle feeding with formula supplementation, we are nursing 2-3 times a day now and it’s helped to keep the clogs away. So, to the women who are looking for shields – give these a try b/c it might help. And, don’t give up on attempting nursing b/c it can still be possible. At the same time and as we all know, do what’s best for you and your baby. No matter what your BF narrative, know that mothers out there support your story.

Highly recommend the 3 pack

I used these with my Medela pump after returning to work. As another reviewer said they made of a similar rigid plastic like other flanges, but I found them MUCH more comfortable to use than the Medela ones. I highly recommend getting the package with all three sizes. I used one of the larger size Medela flanges and I wear a DDD bra or larger and so I thought I would need the XL flanges. However, I actually got higher milk production (with no increase in discomfort) with one of the smaller sizes. You won’t know until you try for yourself. Once I figured out the size I liked best, I ordered an extra set so I didn’t have to spend so much time washing them. Hope they work for you. I really liked them a lot…well as much as anything related to pumping (which is really not my favorite part of being a mom)!!!

Less pain than standard shields

I use a Medela pump several times a day as I am exclusively pumping. After using all three flange sizes that Medela has to offer and still getting sores and bleeding nipples I almost gave up pumping. I read the good reviews on the Pumpin Pal shields and ordered the three pack. After a week of using I can say they are by far more comfortable than the flanges that came with my pump. I have to pump longer and use a higher suction than before, but the FAQ section of their website said that’s because of the design of the shields. That is okay with me since it’s much less painful and I can actually tolerate the higher suction and time. I also found that the medium size worked best for me even though I was using the small Medela flange. Overall I would recommend them if you are having trouble with pumping – don’t give up until you try these shields. Also – big hug to all those struggling.

No more hunching over or standard sizes! These things are simple but great for pumping. The time needed for me to get 3oz decreased by 20 min since the different sizes can be used.

Worth every penny

I have a Medela Pump In Style (purchased summer 2012). Upon my first few uses, I was annoyed (and uncomfortable!) at how vertical I needed to sit in order to get the milk to flow into the bottle.

Enter Pumpin’ Pals. I first bought the multi-pack. The large size fit me best, so I bought a second set. They allow me to sit comfortably in my bed, in a chair, at a desk, anywhere. Especially for someone who is pumping several times a day at work, they were worth every penny!

For sizing help, I am currently wearing a 38 D/E nursing bra, and the 24mm shields that came with the pump worked fine for me. I think the sizing on the Pumpin’ Pals has more to do with breast size than nipple size. (The Medela breastshields are the opposite, as I understand it).

Only regret not getting them doiner

Changed my life and the irritation caused by other flanges. Wish I had bought them in the beginning of my nursing journey.

Wow! I used to have pain at the base of my nipples no matter what size standard shield I used. Using the pumpin pals I had no pain whatsoever and was able to pump at a much higher setting which produced more milk over less time. And the next time my baby latched I was surprised to have no soreness! I wish I would have known about these sooner, but I will definitely be recommending them for any BFing mom I know. I can also see the movement in the entire breast with each cycle instead of just at the tip. I think this might be why I get more milk with them. Also they feel more empty when I’m done; with standard shields my breasts almost felt swollen after a session and now they are soft after pumping. What a truly innovative product!

OMG!

These make a huge difference and do help to produce more milk. I was hesitant to buy them because I had to get all sizes but they are worth the price.
